Sunday, April 2, and Monday, April 3

2. Write about a poem about a superhero coming to your house and confronting you about something. Somewhere in the poem, you have to state what your superpower is.

3. Write a poem that is really a love letter to an old flame. To make sure it’s doesn’t slip into sappy, make sure one or more of these words are in the poem: dung beetle, politician, nuclear, exoskeleton, oceanography, pompadour, toilet.

  1. He entered my house through the third floor window
a shining smile plastered on his face.

The first words out of his mouth
    "You're my new sidekick, Mach!"

He trains me for months. He tells me that I am faster than I thought.
    Much faster.

    Top speed after a year
    Six miles a minute.

  2. Unusual Efforts

    He usually never visited me.
Once in a while he visited town.
Maybe to save the cat from the tree which the
firefighters couldn't do. Or defeat the evil guy that was trying to

destroy the town and the people in it.
The girls were all over him.
They wanted things to happen in town, so that
he would show up and flaunt his muscles.

The problem is, that he comes and sits next to me
at the park. There wasn't any type of crime going on,
unless he could tell the future and came early,
    because he sensed danger,

but next to me? I am usually the most boring person there is.
I have done nothing in my life to impact the world.
I was unworthy of his presence.
But he read my mind and said it to me instead.

How could someone with so much power,
    strength, confidence, and willingness,
be worthy of my presence. He told me that I could

was the chosen one to save this town.
I had unexpected powers, which I never knew about.
"You have special genes, that contain different types of powers."
I never even knew my secret powers.

    He told me to run,
and I ran, but not fast enough.
"Put some effort in it, and try again."
I tried my hardest, and I realized that I ran
    nine miles in sixty seconds.

"Now, raise your hands up and concentrate."
What was this suppose to do?
I stayed concentrated for minutes with my eyes closed.
When I reopened them, I was ten feet above ground.

    "Now, think."
This was hard. I wasn't that smart.
I closed my eyes and saw a big piece of paper
with many plans to save the world.

"Now it's your turn to save this town,
and if you discover your other secret powers,
you'll be able to save the world."

  3. Discovery

    Together, let's do an adventure.
Maybe not like those spectacular and costly ones.

Maybe something a little more simpler.
Something that make us fall in love all over again.

Even if I forget, because of the accident,
    you'll make me remember,

    what love feels like again.
    Let's discover the different world's

in or heads. Two different world's
that seem more like a universe.

    Filled with past, memories, dreams,
and things that have defined us.

Like the scientist that try to discover the ocean.
    They call it oceanography.

As they discover the depths and
everything things that live inside of it.

    Let me ask you questions,
that will finish all the missing pieces.

No need to stare at each other.
Let's just look at the stars in the sky.

Let's just pour our hearts out,
    and set our minds free.

There isn't a cage that will stop it,
    form going free,

or a gate that will shut it half way.
    Let it run wild.

Like the wind in a storm.
Like the waves of a ocean.

    Without limits.
    Just continuous deaths.

And I'll call it our version of oceanography,
just with the name, falling in love.

  4. His cape is crimson-
and falls off of him like waves
    on the ocean.

    He doesn't say much,
just stands and looks through watchful
    eyes.

    I know who he is,
but for him to know me is
    unlikely.

The wind blows, causing his cape to take off into to the air.

He goes with it, leaving only a small package.

It contains a suit. An ice blue one,
    with snowflakes.

I look to the sky and smile.
    He’s fire, I’m ice.

I’m not sure how it ended,
    But I'm glad.

I think it was because we grew apart,
    or my exoskeleton broke.

    I’m not really sure how,
But I think it’s better this way.

Looking back at all the moments we spent together, not one makes me happy.

We were always in each other’s faces,
    Yelling, fighting.

But maybe that was the best part,
because then we’d be able to make up,

    and forget about it all.

There was never a dull moment between us, was there?

Now that I think about it, there was never a colorless moment between us at all.

    So what happened?
    The tides must have turned.

    I’m not sad.
All I have to say is that I’m not sure, how it ended

  5. 2.
    There Are No Heroes

It was a sudden drastic change.
    Yet, at the same time,
    subtle and quiet too.

    A knock on the door
that I did not want to answer.

    Another knock,
    another moment
    where I held my breath.

    Knock
    Knock
    Knock.

    Silence.

    Then, a weakness:
    a feeble heart.
I wanted to see him again,
    despite my mother’s warning.
    I opened the door,
the man of my own blood
    smiled back.

    A hair ruffle.
    Clenched hands
on the wood of the door.

    As always, my little girl.
As always, a girl who feels too much.

    3.
We Do Not Speak of Love

The torch I hold for you is an ice cream cone of regret.

    A one-sided war
that I have raged for years.

    You, unaware,
do not know the nuclear mess I caught myself in,
    because of you.

Some things are better left alone.
Some things are better watched from afar,
    like watching a dung beetle
make its climb on an aged tree.

I want to snip you away,
    like a bad pompadour.
I want to snip what this thing is,
    growing in my chest.

    I want to burn
like an ant under a magnifying glass,
    my exoskeleton melting away.

    I have to let
    this ice cream
    melt.

  6. I knew he was coming
I saw him right there the window

It's something it's something he's coming I know it I saw him there in the window

    That money isn't mine
    That money ain't mine
    I didn't take it I don't own more than a dime

    Why do you haunt me?
I see you out in the window your your coming I know it theese visions they speak to I will not blow it.
    Get out of my head.

That money it wasn't for me.

  7. Every night it was cold you were there.

Your arms wrapped around me when I needed you.

Do you remember the dung beetles that crawled across the floor when it was just me an you

In the sum of the light I spotted them. Let them scuffle onto my finger.

Rembered the way that they rolled, across the floor, accepts our light.

I always loved the way you kept me warm.

When my cloths were all torn and snow was falling in. You kept me warm

You let it all melt away
You let it all go away
And your wispers blew away in the wind and sang in my ears as I tucked myself in my bed.

I blew you s kiss and you grew ever red

  8. While you don your false exoskeleton
    i look on in envy
remembering the way you wore your mask
    always slightly crooked.

You fooled me into loving you
    with your false words
    false promises
    false emotions.

Every word out of your mouth with a lie
    and I foolishly believe it
all because I longed for someone to love
    me.

  9. (Sorry these are posted so late, I have everything typed into a Google Doc but I couldn't paste them in because something was wrong with Blogger for me, the page just kept loading.)

    [April 2nd]

    Kinetic

    Hydro.
    Steeples of ice,
    crashing waves;
    the manipulation of water.

    Helio.
    Flared arcs,
    blazing light;
    of solar manipulation.

    [April 3rd]

    164.79 Years/224.7 Days

    In some realities
    you are Neptune.

    Far from the heat
    lulled in a slow orbit.

But the space around is nuclear and
    radiation snakes into clouds.

It's far too vast and the molecules absence
leaves the rest of us voiceless.

    He was an easy excuse
and you were the easiest person to convince.

    Turn to the stars
and forget how she’ll leave you feeling.

Now there is an aspect of guilt in every glance you share with him
so you breed hate for it's light weight.

Ultimately at the core it meant nothing to you,
all you wanted was to prove yourself wrong.

Retrospectively you fed into the dysfunction
and knew exactly what you were doing.

    Manipulation was never intentional
but you're in denial and he's used.

Unknowingly he was minimal in the grand scheme.
White dots in the black burn too far to feel.

The heat bleeds to the sky that
he, is the causation of your cosmic make up.

But the solar nebula is not the methodical God,
which stardust gathered under your skin was the universe’s unsystematic fate.

    Eighth planet blues.
    Hydrogen helium gasses.

    But in this reality
    you are Venus.

    Turning in your own direction
facing the heat of the sun.

    Acceptance,
    is key to forgiveness.
